Jami and Bill Jenkins have taken over the family
business of Mobility World. After selling a successful orthotics and
prosthetics business in New York that employed 50, the Jenkins
wanted to come back home to Lakeland where Jamie grew up. It was
just about that time Jami’s parents (Judy and Jerry) were
contemplating retiring from Mobility World, which was started by
Judy’s father, Lamar Fleming, in 1984
When Lamar
lost much of his sight in 1999 to diabetes, his daughter, Judy, and
son-in-law, Jerry, stepped in. “Daddy cares so much about these
people,” said Judy. “That is his big thing to keep his children
involved in the business because he knew we cared too. After
building and expanding the business for the last few years, we
decided it was time to retire. The timing couldn’t have been better.
At that time my stepdaughter, Jami, and her husband, Bill, decided
to move back to Lakeland.”
“Taking over the
business just seemed like the right thing to do,” said Jami. “With
Mobility World’s already great reputation and our experience in the
prosthetics and orthotics business, we feel we have a keen insight
in helping seniors and the disabled in finding products that best
fit their needs. I think our knowledge and service will be the
difference. We look forward to the new challenge and to helping so
many people both young and old!”
